  During this summer, Life Sciences Law will host a recent high school graduate as an intern. This program exposes students to a variety of fields: life sciences, law, business, research and start-ups. Working with a disease indication, he or she will research current treatments and technologies as well as the underlying science. Using this background information, the intern will perform market research in preparation for developing business plans.

Sheila Mikhail was a featured speaker at the Phacilitate Cell & Gene Therapy Forum. The forum, held in Baltimore, Maryland, intends to promote safe, commercially-viable cell and gene therapy products. Mikhail, the Managing Member of Life Sciences Law, presented on finding ways to secure funding for orphan disease indications, such as by identifying foundation funding opportunities and by seeking private sponsors.

Sheila Mikhail, Managing Member of Life Sciences Law, was a featured speaker on a panel discussing emerging trends in bio-therapeutics research and opportunities for industry and academia collaboration at the Industry Collaboration Symposium. The symposium, hosted by Ohio State University Medical Center, was designed to highlight biomedical technologies that are developing but are in need of commercial partnerships.

In conjunction with the Canadian Consulate, Sheila Mikhail presented an installment in a program meant to provide insight into the clinical trial process in Canada. Mikhail, the Managing Member of Life Sciences Law, compared the FDA’s and Health Canada’s Clinical Trial regulations and regulatory practices. The program was held at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.
